Last Friday, River Ridge High School dedicated their newly renovated football field’s name to former coach Jerry Usgaard.
Coach Usgaard managed the football program at Bloomington, and eventually River Ridge, for thirty-four years. Thirty of those seasons ended with a winning record for his squad. Usgaard’s teams finished with an overall 206-113-1 record. He was inducted into the Wisconsin Football Coaches Association Hall of Fame.
Current River Ridge head coach Wade Winkers says that his relationship with Coach Usgaard has come full circle. “I was able to play for him, coach with him, and now I have been given the [opportunity] to be the first head coach to coach on the field named after him.”
Coach Winkers’ team won their game Friday night, defeating Highland 56-0.
