Governor Jim Doyle was in southwest Wisconsin promoting environmental initiatives and tourism.  He arrived at Wyalusing State Park early Wednesday afternoon.

govdoyle1Doyle says there are many great tourism opportunities in this part of the state. “I say to a lot of people that southwest Wisconsin is the most underrated and un-talked about part of the state, particularly as it relates to the natural beauty,” says Doyle, “A lot of other states are cutting their state park systems by 10-40%. But, in Wisconsin, even it this very difficult budget time we are maintaining our state park systems.”

Department of Tourism Secretary Kelli Trumble was alongside Governor Doyle and discussed the value of this area to the state. “It’s an important treasure,” she says, “it’s such a pleasure and honor to promote and market this part of the state.”

Governor Doyle had more stops planned on his trip along the Mississippi River today, including the Villa Louis in Prairie du Chien and Nelson Dewey State Park in Cassville.
