In a continuing series of alcohol compliance checks throughout the county this summer, Prairie du Chien police and Crawford County Sheriff’s deputies found that forty-five percent of taverns checked served alcohol to young adults under the age of twenty-one.

“Non-compliance” is the result of alcohol being sold to an underage adult either without asking fort he proper identification or ignoring identification that clearly showed the patron was not of legal drinking age.

Both Chief Michael King and Sheriff Jerry Moran see a successful check as one where no taverns or businesses sell alcohol to underage patrons through voluntary compliance.

Earlier this year, thirty percent of area grocery and convenience stores failed compliance checks.
