The Curious Cup: The Old is New Again

Curious Cup

The “Curious Cup Bookstore and Eatery” is exactly what the name implies. It’s first and foremost the revival of the novel soda fountain shop which some of us remember while others have only seen in movies. The authentic scooped ice cream and malt based sodas are made from the original soda fountain equipment.

In addition to the soda, the Curious Cup also serves up smoothies, scones, turnovers and other desserts. A new deli menu of hot and cold sandwiches has been added to provide lunches and dinners.

Not in the mood to eat? Feel free to look through their shelves and shelves of magazines and books for sale. The collection of books continues to grow and the Curious Cup is open to finding and carrying the book or magazine that you wish.

Jim Trentin and his family opened the shop on May 8th this year and plans to have his official grand opening in the next few weeks. “We wanted to create a place similar to the ones we like in the bigger cities,” Jim said. “A place that is comfortable, relaxing, and is unique for PDC.” He has succeeded in meeting all three of those criteria.

When asked how locals have responded to the new shop, Jim smiled and said, “I’m overwhelmed from the enthusiasm and support from everyone. There is a steady stream of people curious and interested in our progress.”

The renovations are just finishing up on the family business which is open 8am to 8pm Monday through Friday and 9am to 4pm on the weekends.

So, next time you’re on Blackhawk Avenue’s revitalized district, drop by for a soda, book, sandwich, or just to quench your curiosity.
